The Never War Pendragon Series D J MacHale William Dufris Books
I'm reading this series because my son read them and enjoyed them so much, and wanted to be able to talk about it with someone. Though this series is written for young teens, anyone who enjoys a good adventure will appreciate it. Cynical adults like myself will often see where the next turn might lead, but that doesn't take away from the truly amazing adventure at hand. MacHale has created a world (or worlds, or Halla, or territory, or...) that has its own rules, making it easy to achieve the required "suspension of disbelief" needed to lose oneself in this saga. One book in the series is not enough - you must read them all. this review will act as my commentary on the entire series. A+!Tags : Amazon.com: The Never War (Pendragon Series) (9781597372558): D. The Never War Pendragon Series D J MacHale William Dufris Books Reviews
This story made me realize about Earth since well the story was about earths past future and present. Which i thought was cool and how a single event can alter the whole balance of 3 territories even as small as it was. Well hopefully the future does end up at least close to what the story was detailing it out to be cause i think it would be cool just to bad i probably wouldn't be alive by then to see such a such a future unless i was a traveler of course lol
All of the Pendragon books were a present for a boy that is into this series. He is 10 and thinks it was a wonderful gift.
I loved it! I read the narration was so cute and awesome! i love these books. Onto book 4! Loved all the supporting characters but particularly Spader. I hope he comes back in the next book!
wow. DJ McHale has written another great book. The first one was amzing, the second one was too, and man this topped it off. I love war (not in the messed up way) and WW2 and WWI and this book was absolutely amazing. I would highly reccomend this to anyone, and people who like action, suspence, war, history, future, adventure, friends, enemies , conflict, and everything else. I give this a 99 out of 100. Please read this. I guarantee you'll love it.
I thought I might not like this book as much as the first two in the series, but I did. I usually don't like the whole mobster and gangland era of history, but this made it enjoyable to read about, especially the specific things in history that happened in this book that I won't mention so the plot isn't spoiled, but I will say that any student of history who also likes Fantasy novels will at least be intrigued by this book if they don't let harshness rule them. This isn't supposed to be Shakespeare or Chaucer, people. It's fun fiction, so the writing doesn't have to be flawless. Stick with it if you feel it starts to get slow. You'll be glad you did.
Don't know why the Pendragon series never got hugely popular; this is my second time reading it, and it's excellent. I wish every kid (and adult) would take the time, they wouldn't be disappointed. It's magical, suspense-filled, has villains, heroes, the works. I'm buying the series (again), because when my daughter left home, she took her copies with her and I want my own.
I've read books 1-5 in the "Pendragon" series. I thought that 1 and 5 were good. I felt that 2 and 4 were really good, but this book, to me, is the standout of the series (so far).
What MacHale has done in "The Never War" - and kids may not realize this -is take a mysterious piece of American history and use it as a backdrop for Bobby Pendragon's third Halla-based adventure. The story is set in a place both familiar and different to the reader. It takes place on Earth...in the past and in the future.
I don't want to go into the plot too much. I'd much rather you learn about that from the book than from me. Suffice it to say this, though - MacHale weaves a plot-web of gang warfare, genocide, and really tough choices to explain the destruction of the airship Hindenburg.
What I said about 'really tough choices' is unquestionably the most compelling part of the story. Bobby learns firsthand what it means to choose the lesser of two evils...and you feel for him.
I recommend this book whole-heartedly. If you're a parent reading this review, and your son or daughter reads the "Pendragon" series, you should check this one out. It's thought-provoking, and it would be a good springboard from which to discuss some tough issues with your child.
