I've read a number of books by Ms. Mason and although her stories don't usually move me too much emotionally, they have all been entertaining and never boring. While I liked Dominic, I loved Rose's sass, strength, and spirit, and thought she was truly great. Dominic was your typical strong, sexy, arrogant knight and used to getting what he wants when he wants it, which Rose did not make easy for him. He was very kind most of the time but his obvious cluelessness about his ex-mistress's scheming did make him seem like a bit of a dolt at times.THE DRAGON LORD was an enjoyable read overall though. I never think it's a good idea to start a story with the hero in bed with his mistress, but other than that I really liked it. Although Dominic is caught in a compromising position a time or two, he's loyal to Rose which I was thankful for, as I cannot abide a cheating hero. There were many passionate love scenes and the chemistry between them was very believable. Just a really cute and sweet love story, and one I'd recommend to anybody looking for a fast paced and exciting medieval romance.

This book was a competent story, no more. I don't know about other 'romance' readers, but I hate novels which start out with the hero swiving his lewd mistress. Even worse, he goes on to complain he hasn't had a wench for a whole week, and says to the heroine on their wedding night,"If I had had known virgins were like this I would have had one long ago." Talk about crass. He is like a barbarian. Rose is feisty and the only thing that redeems the book. Veronica the mistress is a pain, and Dominic too stupid in his dealings with her. But because he does not care about anyone'ss feelings but his own, he ignores the strife even though he wounds Rose badly in the process. The whole kidnap and rose trapped in her uncles castle was slapstick and silly. The endless background wittering about bad old King John and the Magna Carta was way too dull. When they couple finaly say they are in love with each other, well, most of us could not have cared less. Apart from some varied positions and word you would not use in front of your granny, this book was not in the least sexy. Where is the sensual detail, the smell, taste, feel of falling in love, not just putting up with each other because of proximity?
This was my first Connie Mason romance. I happened to enjoy it very much. I love the forced marriage-never met scenario. The switch was very enjoyable and the hero was smart enough to figure it quickly. The nasty uncle becoming acceptable in the end was too much for me, but I definately recommend it.
Great story also!...loved it
I was enjoying this book [hard cover] so much that I decided to have a copy put on my Fire. Whenever I think I might read it again I add it to this collection. . . .then I give away the book. Saves so much space.
Loved it! Had to read it more than once.
King John has executed Edwyn of Arydale, Rose's father; Arydale has now been given to Dominic Dragon, the Dragon Lord. The king has told Dominic he needs to marry, he may choose the widow of the late lord or his daughter. Dominic does not want to marry unless he can choose his mistress, Veronica. Upon his arrival to Arydale, he not only comes into contact with the widow, but is surprised to see two daughters, identical twins, Rose and Starla. He has not been formally introduced to either daughter but has already been confronted by Rose; he definitely does not want the hot tempered daughter he has already been in contact with. He chooses the shy and mild mannered daughter to wed. Starla is shy and sweet and has her heart set on being a nun,and it is no secret that she is fearful to wed Dominic therefore, Rose takes her place and through trickery Dominic weds Rose instead.
A good quick read. I really like most of her books, but this is not one of her best. I have reread most of her books more than once. Could not remember this one. Now I know why. I have read this one at least twice before, but probably not more than that. I would give it between 3.5 and 4 stars. Dragon was set to marry a woman named Veronica. Not that he loves her, but she is great in bed and he figures he feels more for her than any other woman in his life. Then the King gives him land, but tells Dragon he must marry the mother or the daughter who live on that estate. The King does not know there are 2 daughters and they are twins. Once Dragon resigns himself to the fact that he has married the wrong twin, he has pretty much decided this is the one he wants. He forgets about Veronica, but Rose thinks he is in love with her. Veronica of course shows up later to cause issues. Rose at first doesn't want anything to do with him as he is the King's man and the King killed her father. Things quickly heat up between them, with neither wanting to let the other know they have some feelings for the other one. It's a basic story. Not too exciting even though she adds in an uncle trying to get her land by making her marry his mean stepson, and King John holding her hostage to make sure Dragon is not betraying him with the Barons that want him to sign the Articles of the Barons or know as Magna Carta.
Sex content is high. Her stories are always high sex, but this one may be more sex less story than normal.
